Visiting the Pyramids: common questions
No. The Giza plateau has a public ticket office and you can walk in independently. A guided tour mainly buys you transport from central Cairo, an Egyptologist to explain what you are looking at, and someone to handle the site's touts on your behalf — which is the reason most visitors book one.
Half-day tours of the plateau run about four to five hours including hotel pickup. Full-day tours that add Saqqara, Memphis or the Egyptian Museum usually run eight to ten hours. Filter by duration above to see each group on its own.
Usually not. General plateau admission and the interior of the Great Pyramid are separate tickets, and many tours include the first but not the second. Check the inclusions on the Viator page before booking if going inside matters to you.
Early morning, for two reasons: the site opens around 7am and the coach groups arrive later, and by midday between May and September the plateau is exposed and genuinely hot. Sunset tours are the other good option, and pair naturally with the evening sound-and-light show.
